Every Item Has a Story
Read transcript
My dining room has become a reselling station.
There’s a photo setup, shipping boxes, poly bags, labels, a scale, and even a contraption for folding shirts.
And sometimes, before my kids are even awake, I’m in there getting products ready to sell.
I’m Angie Norris, and this is Side Hustle GPS.
Today, we’re stopping in Main Street to explore Marketplace Listing Preparation.
This is one of my favorite things to do because AI has helped me feel more confident throughout the process.
Sometimes, it starts before I buy an item.
I’m at a thrift store or estate sale, and I take a picture and ask ChatGPT to help me investigate.
Is this worth looking into? What details should I check? What could make it worth buying—or passing on?
The asking price matters. So do condition, demand, fees, and shipping.
AI gives me a starting point. Then I check the item and look for comparable sales before deciding.
And once I bring it home, that research helps me prepare the listing.
I take clear photos and gather the details a buyer needs.
The brand. The size. The condition. What’s included. Any wear or flaws.
Every item has a story, and those details help someone understand what they’re looking at.
Then I use AI to help write a clear, relevant title and description for the platform.
I also work through pricing.
What should I list it for? What’s the lowest offer I’d consider? What costs do I need to account for?
Shipping is part of that, too.
I weigh and measure the item and its packaging so I’m working with real information.
And if I get confused by a listing screen, I can use a screenshot to help ask a more specific question.
That support has made the process feel much more manageable.
I sometimes spend an hour on this early in the morning before getting the kids up and starting my client work.
It fits into my life as a side hustle.
And people notice.
Last night, my daughter came home from soccer with three pairs of cleats her coach wanted me to list on his behalf.
He offered me a cut of the sale.
That’s how another opportunity can begin. Someone sees what you’re doing and says, “Could you help me with that?”
You can offer this service in different ways.
Teach someone how to prepare their own listings.
Create the photos, titles, and descriptions for them.
Or agree to handle the selling process for a fee or a percentage.
Be clear about which service you’re providing.
Listing preparation is one task. Answering buyers, negotiating, packing, shipping, and handling returns are additional responsibilities.
Agree on those details before you begin.
AI can help with the drafts and research, but check every claim. Don’t let it invent a brand, material, feature, or condition detail.
An accurate listing helps buyers feel confident and helps sellers know they’ve represented the item honestly.
Your first money move?
Choose one item you own and prepare a complete listing.
Take the photos, verify the details, research comparable sold items, and write the title and description.
Then show someone what you could prepare for them.
Start with a few items and a clear agreement about the work, payment, and any selling expenses.
So, who do you know with things they want to sell—but no time or confidence to list them?
