Your Personality Is Part of the Gift

One of the first domain names I bought was OneCreativeDiva.com.
And after I had kids, I used to joke, “I’m so crafty, I make people.”
Being creative has always been my thing.
I’m Angie Norris, and this is Side Hustle GPS.
Today, we’re stopping in Pet Parkway to explore Pet-Themed Merchandise.
Through the years, I’ve made gifts for friends, family, and loved ones.
Bags, shirts, hats, calendars, collages, tumblers—you name it.
I love taking an idea and turning it into something fun and personal.
And pets give you so much personality to work with.
The cat who acts like they own the house. The dog who follows their person everywhere. The friend whose entire camera roll is pictures of their pet.
You can create something that makes that person look at it and say, “That is so me.”
A funny shirt. A personalized tote. A tumbler with their pet’s name or face.
Your personality becomes part of the gift, too. Your humor, your style, and the little details you think to include.
I’ve made plenty of these kinds of products at home.
I have an inkjet printer, and I’ve used dark T-shirt transfer paper to put designs on shirts and tote bags.
I also have a Cricut, and I’ve created pet-inspired vinyl designs for cups, shirts, and other gifts.
There’s something satisfying about making the finished product yourself.
And now, AI can help you develop ideas, explore designs, and create variations more quickly.
You still get to decide what feels right.
Does it fit the person? Is the joke funny? Does the design look good on the actual product?
You can also take this in a print-on-demand direction.
I’ve looked at options like Redbubble, Etsy, Printify, and Printful.
The appeal is being able to work on designs while a production partner handles making and shipping the products.
You’ll still need to understand the costs, how orders work, and what you’ll earn from each sale.
But you have choices. You can make products yourself, work with a printing partner, or build a collection of designs for a marketplace.
Start with the approach that fits your time and interests.
And make your designs specific.
Instead of trying to create something for every pet lover, think about one person you understand.
The devoted cat mom. The horse lover. The dog owner who takes their best friend everywhere.
What would make them smile?
Your first money move?
Choose one type of customer and one product.
Create three original design ideas, then turn your favorite into a sample.
If you’re making it at home, test the materials and finish. If someone else is printing it, order a sample so you can see the quality.
Then photograph it and offer it to people who would enjoy that style.
You can build a bigger collection after you learn what people respond to.
So, what pet-themed gift would your friends immediately recognize as something you created?
