My cartoon character started as a picture. Then she got a little blue car. And before I knew it, she was driving through a whole world of side hustle possibilities. Honestly? I was having a blast. I’m Angie Norris, and this is Side Hustle GPS. Today, we’re stopping in Creator Coast to explore Original Animated Channels—and how a playful experiment can grow into something bigger. When I started building Side Hustle GPS, I wanted a cartoon version of myself to guide you through the experience. I’ve been a side hustler for as long as I can remember, and I wanted this to feel like we were exploring together. There I was in the graphics, trying different side hustles and showing you places you could go. Then I thought, “What if we made her move?” That opened up a whole new adventure. I started turning those images into animated scenes. My character driving through the countryside. Entering the regions map. Passing different destinations while people waved from the streets. Suddenly, the world I’d imagined was coming to life. And I wasn’t setting aside entire days to work on it. Ten minutes here. Twenty minutes there. Across a couple of days, I spent less than an hour of my own working time creating a collection of animated videos. That was my experience with those short scenes. A longer, more detailed episode would be a different project. But those little experiments helped me see what else I could create. That’s why I don’t think play is a waste of time. Sometimes you learn what’s possible because you let yourself try something that sounds fun. And an animated channel gives those experiments somewhere to grow. You create characters people recognize. A world they want to return to. And a reason to wonder, “What happens in the next episode?” I mentioned my friend who creates adventures starring her grandchildren, with her dog as their guide. What began as something sweet to entertain the kids grew into a series, a channel, and books. And the kids kept asking for more. That’s a wonderful clue. They wanted another adventure with those characters. She’s also explored creating personalized animated stories for other people. So one creative project opened up several directions. For your own channel, start by thinking about the audience. Who is this for? What would they enjoy? And what connects one episode to the next? Maybe it’s a curious character learning something new. A funny team solving everyday problems. Or a guide taking viewers through a world of possibilities—like my cartoon Angie. You don’t have to appear on camera yourself. But you do need to make creative decisions. What do your characters look like? How do they speak? What makes their world feel familiar each time? I can use my photo as a reference and ask AI to help me develop a character or storyboard. Then I keep reference images and notes about the character’s appearance, clothing, colors, and personality. Those details help me work toward consistency as I create new scenes. I still need to review the results. Did the face change? Did the outfit change? Does this scene fit the story? The tools help create the pieces. I bring them together into the experience I want the viewer to have. And that can become a project of your own—or a service you offer someone else. You might create a recurring series for a business or personalized adventures for a family. Publishing your own channel is another route to explore. Earning from it depends on the platform’s requirements and how your content performs, so start by building something people want to return to. Here’s your first money move: Create one original character and plan three short episodes. Give each episode a small adventure, question, or problem. Then make a short pilot. Show it to someone in your intended audience and ask, “Would you want to see what this character does next?” Listen to their answer. You’re learning whether your idea has somewhere to go. So here’s your question today: Who would be the star of your animated world—and what would make people come back? Explore Original Animated Channels in Creator Coast at SideHustleGPS.com. Play is not a waste of time. Sometimes a little curiosity, a cartoon character, and a blue car can take you somewhere you hadn’t imagined yet.
