You Don’t Have to Know Every Move

Read transcript
Do you need to know every move before you start? I’ve always been someone who loves trying something new. The excitement, the curiosity, the possibility of a new adventure—I’m usually ready to jump in. But when it comes to business, I’ve learned that adding strategy is the key. I’m Angie Norris, and this is Side Hustle GPS. Today, we’re stopping in Treasure Trail to explore Board Game Resale—and why you don’t have to know every move to begin. Some of the greatest mentors I’ve learned from have shared this idea: you have to build the staircase as you’re walking up it. That has stayed with me. You have a vision. You know what you’re hoping to create. But you might not know exactly what the next step will look like until you start moving. And that’s where faith comes in for me. I’ve built projects, brands, businesses, and side hustles over the years with faith that I’m working toward something bigger. Some ideas fizzle out. Some become a failing-forward moment that teaches me something I needed to learn. And some turn into something great. I can’t always tell which one it’s going to be at the beginning. But if I had never acted on my visions, never followed my dreams, or never tried something new, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Building Side Hustle GPS is another one of those adventures. As it comes together, I keep thinking, “Wow. This is really neat.” The goal was to take people on a journey. Because finding a list of side hustles is easy. But looking at a list and knowing what to do next are two different experiences. I love training beginners. Whether I’m helping someone understand AI or explore a way to make money, I love helping them get going. And I wanted that experience to be enjoyable. So I pictured an interactive map. Remember those big road atlases? You’d pull over, open one up, find where you were, and look for the route to your next destination. That’s the feeling I wanted to create. Here’s where you’re starting. Here are some places you could go. And here are directions to help you move toward the one you choose. I’m still building that vision, one step at a time. And in a way, it reminds me of playing a board game. There’s strategy. There’s a little luck. And there’s a big sense of adventure. You can understand the rules and think about your next move, but you can’t predict everything that will happen. You make a move. You see what changes. Then you decide what to do next. That’s a useful way to approach a side hustle, too. You don’t need to know how you’ll handle your hundredth sale before you’ve explored your first. For Board Game Resale, your first move might be finding one game you already own and no longer play. Open the box. Check the pieces against the contents list. Look at the condition of the board, cards, and packaging. Then research what that particular edition has actually sold for. If it looks worth listing, take clear photos and describe it honestly—including anything that’s missing. That’s one manageable move. You’ll learn something from it. And what you learn can help you choose your next move. Having faith in a vision doesn’t mean every idea will work exactly the way you imagined. For me, it means being willing to begin, pay attention, and keep making thoughtful decisions as I go. So here’s your question today: What’s one move you could make with what you know right now? Maybe you need to research an item. Maybe you need to create a sample. Maybe you need to ask someone whether they’d be interested in what you’re offering. Choose a step small enough to take—and useful enough to teach you something. Visit SideHustleGPS.com to explore Board Game Resale in Treasure Trail, or find another route that sparks your curiosity. You don’t have to see the whole board before you start. Make your first move. Then give yourself a chance to discover what comes next.
