My Action Plan: Podcast Clips

1. Your Route and Eight Essential Answers

Pacing

Use seven days to get permission, select a moment, edit a sample and propose a small paid batch.

One approved sample and a clear proposal are progress. The original suggested three-clip batch is an offer to discuss, not guaranteed paid work.

1. What am I selling?
A clearly scoped editing service: short clips from an authorized episode, with agreed length, aspect ratio, captions, file format, delivery date and revision limit.
2. Who will buy it?
Podcast hosts, business owners with interview shows and authorized podcast producers who want accurate short-form assets from their recordings.
3. Where do I find those buyers?
Choose one relevant show and use its official business contact to request permission before editing. Show a permitted sample and propose a defined paid batch after feedback.
4. Which software and tools do I use?
An authorized video, computer, headphones, Clipchamp, timestamped transcript and controlled sharing folder. Keep original files; captioning or AI processing needs client permission.
5. How do I create my first product or service?
Watch the episode, choose a self-contained moment, trim without changing meaning, reframe for the agreed platform, correct captions and review the exported file.
6. Where do I publish, list, or promote it?
Deliver privately through a controlled Google Drive link for client approval. The client chooses posting; obtain separate portfolio/publication permission before sharing samples publicly.
7. How do I get paid?
Agree fee, clip quantity, formats, deadline, revisions and payment stages before work. Send an itemized eligible business invoice and confirm actual payment in your account.
8. What should I accomplish in my first seven days?
Complete one authorized, reviewed sample and propose a small paid batch. Without permission, practice on your own recording rather than downloading someone else’s show.

2. Where to Find Customers and How the Transaction Works

Direct host: request permission, then demonstrate

A host owns or controls a video episode and can authorize a small editing sample with a known audience and platform.

Steps

  • Use the show’s official contact route to request a specific sample permission. Confirm episode, allowed use and whether it can appear in a portfolio; do not rip a public stream.
  • In Clipchamp, create a video, Import media and add it to the timeline. Find a self-contained moment, trim or split its boundaries, then reframe without hiding the active speaker.
  • If authorized, use Captions → transcription language → Transcribe media. Correct names, numbers and words in the transcript, preview legibility, export and watch the entire file with and without sound.

Getting paid: A sample is not automatically a paid commission. After feedback, agree a fee and limits for the next batch before editing more; no audience-growth guarantee belongs in the offer.

Safety: Auto-captioning sends audio to Microsoft speech services. Get permission first or use client-approved manual text. Preserve context; captions must not invent quotes or change a speaker’s meaning.

Podcast producer: a small subcontracted batch

An authorized producer or agency needs a defined edit and can supply recordings, brand specifications and an approval contact.

Steps

  • Ask who has authority to commission the edits, clear guest/music rights and approve final clips. Confirm source files, quantity, length, aspect ratio, captions and revision limit in writing.
  • Upload a permitted review export to Google Drive. Use Share, enter the named recipient and choose Viewer. Check inherited folder access; viewers may be able to download.
  • When agreed stages are due, create an itemized invoice in PayPal via Pay & Get Paid → Create an Invoice if eligible. Review the client, deliverables, charges and terms before sending.

Getting paid: Verify service availability and fees for your market. Track payment status in your account, not a screenshot. Clarify payment stages and final-file delivery without assuming a preview prevents copying.

Safety: Use least-necessary access and a retention/deletion agreement. Do not request account passwords, post for the client without permission or upload confidential interviews to unapproved AI services.

3. Your First Offer, First Customer, and Tools

Your first offer

A small paid batch, such as three agreed 30–60-second clips from one authorized episode, with one specified aspect ratio, corrected captions, a delivery date and a revision limit. Confirm all details; extra formats and new selections change scope.

Get permission before making the sample

  • Find one show whose topic you understand and use its published business contact. Ask about an authorized sample instead of assuming public access grants rights.
  • If permission is unavailable, record your own short conversation with participant consent and practice privately.

Show accuracy, then propose a batch

  • Send a controlled review link and explain why the moment stands alone. Ask the host to approve meaning, captions and rights.
  • Offer a small paid batch with quantity, formats, deadline, revisions and payment terms; never promise virality or fabricated engagement.

Permission request example: “May I make one private sample from [episode/moment] for your review? Please confirm permitted files and use. I will not post it or add it to my portfolio without separate approval.”

4. Seven-Day Starter Plan: Days 1–4

A sale is never guaranteed. Your milestones are finished work and honest answers.

  1. Day 1: Secure an authorized recording

Objective: Begin with the right to edit.

    Tools: Permission record; source files.

New to this? Public availability does not grant reuse, and editing permission is not portfolio permission.

Finished when: One authorized source or a private practice recording.

  2. Day 2: Find self-contained moments

Objective: Choose meaning, not just a catchy line.

    Tools: Player; transcript; timestamp notes.

New to this? AI suggestions are only leads; confirm timestamps and meaning in the recording.

Finished when: Three candidates and one chosen sample.

  3. Day 3: Trim and reframe

Objective: Make a clear short clip.

    Tools: Clipchamp; headphones.

New to this? Do not splice words to fabricate a quote or cut out a qualification that changes the claim.

Finished when: One rough edit with accurate context.

  4. Day 4: Correct captions and export

Objective: Check what viewers actually receive.

    Tools: Editor; transcript; phone.

New to this? Listen with headphones, then watch muted; both speech and captions should remain understandable.

Finished when: One reviewed sample export.

5. Seven-Day Starter Plan: Days 5–7

  1. Day 5: Share for approval

Objective: Let the rights holder check the result.

    Tools: Google Drive; version notes.

New to this? A view-only setting may still permit downloading; do not treat it as copy protection.

Finished when: An approval or clear revision list.

  2. Day 6: Propose a paid batch

Objective: Define the next work before doing it.

    Tools: Scope notes; invoice help.

New to this? New episode selections, alternate formats and unlimited revisions are not automatic extras.

Finished when: A scoped proposal or improved starter offer.

  3. Day 7: Review and document

Objective: Build a reliable editing habit.

    Tools: Worksheet; records; backups.

New to this? A quote is not revenue, and an approved sample is not permission for public posting.

Finished when: A factual result record and next step.

Your First Money Move

Optional accelerated challenge: try this when it fits your pace. Your standard beginner journey is the seven-day plan above.

Create one approved sample. Propose a paid batch.

“I turned this moment from your episode into a short clip: [link]. Would a paid batch of three clips from your next episode help keep your social content moving?”

6. AI Assistance, Financial Worksheet, and Next Goal

How to use AI

Official AI help: ChatGPT: free-tier help (help.openai.com/en/articles/9275245-using-chatgpt-s-free-tier-faq)

  1. With permission, paste the complete prompt and a genuine timestamped transcript. Remove confidential data not needed for selection.
  2. Check every suggested time against the recording and watch the context before choosing a clip. Use a manual watch-and-note process if AI use is not authorized.

Your complete AI prompt

If Copy does not work, select the text above and copy it manually.

Review this timestamped podcast transcript. Suggest three moments for 30–60-second clips for [audience]. Give start and end timestamps, why each works, a short title, and any needed context. Use only the transcript. Don’t invent quotes or timestamps. Flag moments that depend on earlier discussion.

Verify before you use AI output

AI is optional for shortlisting. It does not replace listening, editing judgment or rights approval, and it should never invent a stronger quote.

Revenue, Expenses and Profit Worksheet

Enter actual numbers, not predictions. Profit = revenue minus expenses. Record actual received fees, approved software/licensing and payment fees paid. Avoid double-counting deducted fees. This is before-tax cash tracking. *Hours are optional; include review and revisions.
