My Action Plan: Pet Sitting

Pet Sitting

1. Your Route and Eight Essential Answers

Pacing

Use seven days to define your limits, prepare intake and visit checklists, arrange a meet-and-greet, and propose one suitable paid visit.

An optional 24-hour challenge is to write your service boundaries and contact one suitable owner. Never skip a meet-and-greet or safety checks to get paid sooner.

1. What am I selling?
A scheduled pet-sitting visit in the owner’s home, with an agreed duration, specific care tasks, and an accurate update afterward.
2. Who will buy it?
Local pet owners who need trustworthy help while away and whose pets, location, routine, and dates fit your abilities and availability.
3. Where do I find those buyers?
Start with suitable owners you know or a legitimate local referral. Rover is an optional marketplace after its onboarding and approval requirements are met.
4. Which software and tools do I use?
Owner-approved instructions, phone, transportation, calendar, visit checklist, emergency contacts, secure key arrangements, and an agreed payment method.
5. How do I create my first product or service?
Define your service, meet owner and pet, confirm the written care plan, complete and document visits, then securely close the booking.
6. Where do I publish, list, or promote it?
Describe your actual experience and availability in an appropriate local introduction or approved Rover profile. Do not invent qualifications or testimonials.
7. How do I get paid?
Agree visit price, included tasks, travel, cancellation terms, and payment timing. Direct clients use the agreed method; Rover bookings and payments stay on Rover.
8. What should I accomplish in my first seven days?
Prepare a safe service and, if a suitable owner is ready, book one paid visit. Rover approval may take longer than a week; a completed visit is not guaranteed.

2. Where to Find Customers and How the Transaction Works

Start here: a suitable local owner and written visit agreement

A manageable first booking with a pet you have met, a routine you understand, and a location you can reach reliably.

Steps

  • State pet types, visit length, tasks, travel area, availability, and price. Arrange a meet-and-greet with the owner present before accepting care.
  • Confirm dates, instructions, access, emergency contacts, veterinary authorization, an unreachable-owner plan, and payment terms in writing.
  • If using PayPal Invoicing, describe the dates and visits accurately. Verify payment in your account and keep visit and delivery-of-care records.

Getting paid: Charge for agreed care, not unlimited availability. Include travel and processing costs in your planning; confirm cancellation and extra-visit charges before booking.

Safety: Check applicable licensing, insurance, and local rules. Decline aggressive behavior, medical tasks, or situations beyond your training. Do not treat a platform guarantee as blanket insurance.

Optional: an approved Rover sitter profile

A marketplace path when the service is available locally and your application is approved—not a shortcut around screening.

Steps

  • Select Become a sitter → Get started on Rover. Choose services and honestly complete service setup, profile, safety, and applicable identity/background steps.
  • Submit the application and wait for approval; Rover’s guidance says review can take longer than seven days. Do not invent past-client testimonials.
  • For a suitable request, arrange a meet-and-greet, confirm care and booking details, and keep booking and payment on Rover. Verify the confirmed booking before care begins.

Getting paid: The owner pays through Rover’s booking process. Check current service fees, payout terms, account requirements, and any country-specific conditions.

Safety: A completed profile is not permission to accept every pet. Confirm behavior, access, routine, emergency arrangements, and your ability to perform each task.

3. Your First Offer, First Customer, and Tools

Your first offer

Proposed first offer: one scheduled 30-minute visit for a pet you have met, including agreed feeding, fresh water, companionship, and a factual update. Confirm whether that duration suits the pet. Exclude boarding, overnight stays, difficult handling, and medical procedures unless separately qualified and agreed.

Find a safe match

  • Ask one suitable local owner whether they need the exact visits you can offer. Explain your experience honestly.
  • Meet the owner and pet; discuss behavior, feeding, allergies, escape risks, access, and any tasks outside your comfort or competence.

Confirm before entering

  • Record dates, visit times, care tasks, vet and emergency contacts, backup arrangements, and authorized decisions if the owner is unreachable.
  • Agree key handling, updates, photo permission, price, cancellation terms, and payment. Decline if essential information or safe access is missing.

“I offer local pet-sitting visits for [pet types] in [area], including agreed feeding, fresh water, and companionship. Would you like a meet-and-greet to discuss a suitable paid visit? I accept only care I can confidently provide.”

4. Seven-Day Starter Plan: Days 1–4

A sale is never guaranteed. Your milestones are finished work and honest answers.

  1. Day 1: Set your boundaries

Objective: Choose care you can reliably and safely provide.

    Tools: Service outline; calendar; map.

New to this? A narrow service is safer than accepting unfamiliar care to secure a booking.

Finished when: A specific service with honest exclusions.

  2. Day 2: Build the care form

Objective: Prepare the questions needed before accepting work.

    Tools: Intake form; visit checklist.

New to this? Missing instructions should be resolved with the owner, not guessed during a visit.

Finished when: A complete intake and emergency checklist.

  3. Day 3: Price and prepare

Objective: Make timing, costs, and terms realistic.

    Tools: Cost sheet; service agreement.

New to this? A visit fee must support the full task, including travel and communication.

Finished when: A written offer with practical terms.

  4. Day 4: Approach a suitable owner

Objective: Invite a meet-and-greet, not an immediate unattended visit.

    Tools: Service summary; calendar.

New to this? A platform application or conversation is progress, not a confirmed paid booking.

Finished when: One appropriate approach or onboarding milestone.

Pet Sitting

5. Seven-Day Starter Plan: Days 5–7

  1. Day 5: Meet and confirm

Objective: Evaluate the pet, routine, and property access.

    Tools: Intake form; owner demonstration.

New to this? A friendly pet in a photo does not replace an in-person suitability check.

Finished when: A safe acceptance decision or clarified service limits.

  2. Day 6: Complete the visit

Objective: If booked, follow instructions and document actual care.

    Tools: Phone; instructions; visit checklist.

New to this? Never ask AI to diagnose a pet or invent an update. If unbooked, practice your checklist.

Finished when: An accurate visit record or completed practice walkthrough.

  3. Day 7: Close responsibly

Objective: Secure the home and record the booking outcome.

    Tools: Closeout checklist; payment record.

New to this? If the first visit falls later, keep the real booking date rather than forcing it into this week.

Finished when: A documented closeout or ready upcoming visit.

  1. Paste the complete verified prompt with anonymized, confirmed visit observations.
  2. Use the draft only to organize an owner update; do not include keys, alarm codes, addresses, or private contacts.

Your complete AI prompt

If Copy does not work, select the text above and copy it manually.

Turn owner-approved instructions into a checklist for each scheduled visit.

Preserve feeding quantities, times, and care instructions exactly. Don’t invent or change directions. Flag missing or conflicting details for owner confirmation.

Separately, draft a brief update using only actual visit notes. Don’t claim tasks or behavior absent from those notes.

Omit access codes and sensitive information.

Revenue, Expenses and Profit Worksheet

Enter actual numbers, not predictions. Profit = revenue minus expenses. Record visit payments received, travel, supplies you actually purchased, and platform or processing fees. Do not subtract platform fees again from an already net payout. *Hours are optional; include travel and updates to judge worthwhile profit before taxes.
